Approaching Clayton, GA01-24-2007Here is a picture from our trip to Clayton, GA in early December Clayton is the county seat of Rabun County. The town was orginally called Dividings as it was the intersection of three Cherokee trails, two of which became Georgia highways. The area was explored by a famous American naturalist named William Bartram in 1775. The city was incorporated in 1823 and was named for Judge Augustin S. Clayton who was a local representative as well as a Federal Congressman representing Georgia. It was first known as Claytonsville, but was eventually shortened to Clayton. 0 comments.Category: [Clayton]
