Pictures of Comer, GA05-07-2007On our way to our camping trip to Watson Mill Bridge State Park, we passed through the town of Comer, Georgia. Technically the park is in Comer. Just outside of town, there was a rather gothic looking cemetary that I snapped a shot of from the car. It was probably closer to our campsite than it was to the town, but I still thought it made a good picture. When we first drove through, Comer's main street didn't seem too impressive. It looked like little more than an intersection surrounded by a few brick buildings. A few days later when we came back to take pictures and walked around. We discovered something very interesting. Comer does have quite a nice mainsteet. The thing is, it doesn't face the road that goes through the town. Rather, it faces the train tracks. As we drove up, we stopped at the only major intersection in the town. This was were we could only really see a gas station and the post office. When we first hopped out of the car, we saw a bunch of brick alleys next to the post office. Now while that was certainly more than we've seen in many towns, it was still less than impressive. That's why we were so surprised by the fancy facade facing the railroad tracks. Across the street from the Post office there was a rather interesting looking church beyond the tracks. After we walked through the alleys that face the highway, we discovered that nice small town mainstreet look on the tracks. There were a number of restaraunts, shops, and galleries. I particularly liked the rather interesting architecture along the tops of the buildings that faced the tracks.
