Pictures of Mountain Park, Georgia

10-30-2006

Mountain Park is really just a large neighborhood that got incorporated into a city. It's a wildlife refuge with no zoning for business. Apparently, the town started as a collection of summer cottages built around a natural spring. I felt a little bit like an intruder there rather than a visitor, so I took all of these pictures from the car. The town made it clear that they did not tolerate parking on the streets. Driving through, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had jumped back in time to an artist commune in the mid seventies.

Mountain Park lives up to its name and has a large park including two lakes in the middle. The roads there were tight, sometimes only one lane. The houses varied from very small to very large.

The park was quite large and sported a number of structures including a gazebo and several pedestrian bridges. There was also a dam that created a waterfall between the two lakes.

Mountain Park appears to really only have two public buildings. The town hall, which was a well kept cabin built at the corner of the park next to one of the lakes. The other building was the firehouse, but it was built next to a hill where I could not get a good picture that looked like anything more than a garage.
