Pictures of Woodstock, GA

11-06-2006

Jeannemarie had grad school on Saturday, I went on my own to get pictures of Woodstock. We live only a few minutes away and have been there often, so we had both already seen it before. So, I figured it would be a good one to get pictures of when I was by myself.

Like so many North Georgia towns, Woodstock has a train station at its center. The town started as a stop Louisville and Nashville railroad line. This one has a red caboose also parked next to it. You can also see some very large buildings behind it. I think they were condos but they may have been office buildings. The depot now houses the Downtown Development association.

In addition to the rail line, Woodstock has a number of nearby waterways that attracted industry in the 19th century. Today it is one of the fastest growing towns in the state. Dozens of huge apartment complexes are going up in the area. It's really becoming another Atlanta suburb, especially with I575 running so nearby.

The business district, Main Street, that is, had the majority of shops and restaurants on one side of the tracks. Main Street by the way was VERY busy. It was not possible for me to get a shot without cars in it. There was a variety of specialty shops here.

Woodstock also has its own farmer's market. The market was at the north end of Main Street just at the edge of the downtown area.

The Olde Town Café looked to be pretty upscale. It was right across from the park. It was in fact more than a café. It was a full service restaurant with a lunch menu and steak on the dinner entrée list.

The day I was there, there was a festival going on. The park in the middle of the town was full of tents and surrounded by parked cars, so it was difficult to get a good picture. You can a pretty substantial gazebo in the park though.
