There is a small town to the east of Helen, Georgia called Sautee-Nacoochee. It's sort of spread out without really having a "main street". But, there is a very nice little area at the intersections of Highway 17 and 255. We stopped there for lunch one day.

Sautee Point

There was this rather large complex of artist studios and such in Sautee. It was a kind of conglomeration of little shops. Though you could only tell by looking at it from one side. From the other, it just looked like a regular store with a parking lot.

Old Sautee Store

Across the street, the Old Sautee Store was sort of an old fashion general store.

Old Sautee Market

Next to the Old Sautee Store was the Old Sautee Market. This little stone building was called the Old Sautee Market, which was a sandwich shop.
Pictures of McCaysville, GA

While home shopping for Jeannemarie's parents we came to the town of McCaysville which is right on the northern border of the state. We were quite supprised by the size of the town. It was quite large for being in the middle of the mountains and very busy.

Shopping

There were lots of well stocked antique and gift stores. The shopping there was quite lively.

Toccoa River

The river that passes through town changes name as it crosses the border between Georgia and Tennessee. In Tennessee it is called the Toccoa, but in Georgia, it is the Ocoee

Iron Horse Grill

We didn't eat there, but I really like the way the building looked for the Iron Horse Grill. I think technically it was in Copper Hill, not McCaysville

Main Drag

The main Drag through the Town seems to be Toccoa Street (South Ocoee Street on the Tennesee side). The street named "Main Street" was all on the Tennessee side and was not built up so much, and technically, it is in Copper Hill not McCaysville. For as far of the interstates as it is, we were suprized at how busy the town was.

Bridge in McCaysville, Georgia

McCaysville is built on a river and has a couple of very nice looking bridges. Both of them are pedestrian friendly. A bunch of ducks were living in the river, too. So Jeannemarie, of course, fed them nearly a whole loaf of bread. In the restaurant we ate lunch in, there was a picture of the town completely flooded. So, apparently this river has a bit of a temper.

McCaysville - Copper Hill Border

McCaysville is situated along the Georgia/Tennessee border. The town is divided in two by a blue dotted line. On the Georgia side it is McCaysville, but the Tennesee side is called Copper Hill.
