Where to Get Mead
A big package store A Package StoreIt's a very difficult drink to find in stores. Apparently, most alcohol makers prefer the cheaper ingredients of wine and beer. Mead requires a lot of honey, and honey runs three to four times the cost of grape juice. I've found that very large package stores will sometimes have a bottle or two, but nothing more. Mostly, I just get a funny look from the clerk when I ask for it. I few try to direct me to the nearest butcher, thinking I'm looking for "meat".
Renaissance Festival A Renaissance FestivalYou can often get mead at a Renaissance festival. In fact, before I started making my first batch, I went to the Atlanta Ren Fest to try it and make sure it tasted as good as I remembered. Actually, it tasted great, but I was drinking professional stuff this time, not a batch made by a dabbling coworker. It concerns me a little that mead seems to be marketed only to geeks, but I guess being in the IT industry, I am exactly that.
Online? The WebYou can order mead from the web too, but I've never tried it, so attempt it at your own risk. I suppose if I can ever sort through all the federal, state, and local laws I might one day sell my mead this way. |
